Carthage Veterinary Service, Ltd. (CVS) provides consulting to independent swine producers and production systems throughout the United States, the Americas, and Asia. We provide outstanding veterinary service by combining science with health and production and a commitment to continuous improvement. With ten veterinarians and a multi-discipline support staff, Carthage Veterinary Service has a strong foundation of experience to provide a multitude of services domestically and internationally.

    Training and Development Manager

    The Training and Development Manager is responsible for delivering high-quality training programs to the organization’s employees, clients, and partners. They will lead the organization’s efforts to design, develop, and implement learning initiatives that align with business objectives. This role is responsible for overseeing the strategy, execution, and continuous improvement of all training programs, ensuring they support the growth and development of both internal and external clients.

Student Opportunities

CISS Research Internships
Carthage Veterinary Service, Ltd. offers opportunities to undergraduate and veterinary students to participate in a research internship program. Students will be provided opportunity to conduct commercial research trials with a focus on swine nutrition, production, behavior, environmental, or economics. Students will have the opportunity to learn new skills that enhances knowledge of the swine industry, standard farm practices, and veterinary medicine. Carthage Veterinary Service will be a catalyst in providing the student with a positive learning experience.

Internship Program
Our paid internship program is open to all full-time college and veterinary students who are enrolled in a college program and are studying agriculture, animal science, or veterinary medicine. Student housing is provided by the company. All students will be required to complete an independent research project focused around swine production and dependent on an intern’s particular interest. The results of the research will be presented at the conclusion of the program to various employees of the company. The company provides activities throughout the program to encourage networking, team building, and overall community engagement.

Time Commitment
• Summer break - 3 months
• 40-50 hours per week

CVS Veterinary Externships
Carthage Veterinary Service, Ltd. offers opportunities to veterinary students to participate in a veterinary externship program. Students will work along veterinarians during their externship. Site visits may include conducting herd evaluations, performing necropsies, serological profiling, ventilation auditing, as well as biosecurity auditing. Swine production experiences may include analyzing pig flows, reviewing production targets, and record analysis. Additional opportunities may include participation in sow and/or wean-to-finish research as well as site visits with production teams. Externs will participate in herd staff discussions and may write a herd visit report.

Externship Program
Our externship program is open to all full-time veterinary students who have completed at least two full years of school and are studying veterinary medicine.
Housing is provided for externs.

CVS Veterinary Internships
Carthage Veterinary Service, Ltd. offers opportunities to veterinary students to participate in a veterinary internship program. Students will gain experience by learning new skills that enhances knowledge of the swine industry, standard farm operating procedures, and swine veterinary medicine. Carthage Veterinary Service will serve as a catalyst in providing the student with a positive learning experience that enhances the intern’s knowledge.

Internship Program
Our internship program is open to all full-time veterinary students who have completed at least two full years of school and are studying veterinary medicine. Student housing is provided by the company. All students will be assigned a project at the start of their internship and provide regular updates and a comprehensive presentation of results at the conclusion of the program. In addition to conducting a research project, the student will learn basic technical tasks and sampling methods and participate in herd health visits and disease investigations. CVS strives towards increasing knowledge of competencies for swine veterinary practice. The company provides activities throughout the program to encourage networking, team building, and overall community engagement.

Micro-Internships
Carthage Veterinary Service, Ltd. offers micro-opportunities to students looking to get a better understanding of the opportunities within the Swine industry.
